A state-dependent constitutive model for coarse-grained gassy soil and its application in slope instability modelling

Free gas in sandy marine sediments is a common occurrence worldwide. A distinct feature of gassy sand that, under undrained shearing, presence occluded bubbles the pore fluid can increase strength at relatively loose state, while reduce dense sand. Previous theoretical analyses have primarily focused on modelling ‘beneficial’ effect free migrating static liquefaction, with few attempts to describe ‘detrimental’ loading. This study presents state-dependent critical state model, which describes behavior various states unified way. Comparison between model predictions and test data three sands shows that new capture constitutive over wide range initial degrees saturation (typically 85% 100% for unsaturated sediments) using single set parameters. Parametric studies were performed quantify effects (either or ‘beneficial’) states. The has been implemented ABAQUS used simulate stability submarine slopes loading condition. It found improve weaken slope sand, respectively.
